Barbara J. (Kurtz) Smith

Barbara J. Smith, 67, of Reading, passed away peacefully on January 7th in the Reading Hospital.  She was the wife of the late Dennis G. Smith, Sr. Born in Elverson, PA, she was the daughter of the late Russell V. and Evelyn F. (Hetrick) Kurtz.  Barbara spent most of her career in hospitality management and loved the Lord.  She loved to travel and enjoyed teaching three generations of family and countless other children how to fish.  Barbara had a positive impact on every community that she lived in and was loved by all.  Surviving are two sons, Dennis G. Smith, Jr., Reading, PA, and Jeffrey B. Smith, Laurel, MD; sisters, Diann Frame, Elverson, PA, Deborah Wunderlich, wife of Garry Wunderlich, Elverson, PA, Christine DeMille, wife of Edward DeMille, Bethel, PA, and Elaine Griffith, Reading, PA.  Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jessica L. Smith, Teresa M. Smith, wife of Ryan Lee, Dennis G. Smith III, fiancé of Avery Herrmann, and Andaiye L. Smith; two great grandchildren, Thomas and Gabriella Ioannucci; and multiple generations of cousins.  Memorial Services will be held on Saturday at 5:00 PM in First Baptist Church, 5th and Chestnut Sts., Reading.  Family and friends will be received from 4:00 to 5:00 PM.  Interment will be private.  Memorial contributions may be to the Reading Humane Society in Barbara’s name.  MARK J HUMMEL Funeral Home, Lower Alsace Twp., Reading has charge of arrangements.  www.markjhummelfuneralhome.com
