Donald Martin Obituary

 

Donald B. Martin, “Donnie”, 75, of Adamstown, passed away on Sept. 6th in the Reading Hospital unexpectedly. Born in Reading Jan 1st 1943, he was the son of the late William B. and Betty M. (Katzenmoyer) Martin.  Donald was pre-deceased by one daughter, Deborah J. Mayer and one brother, William L. Martin.  Surviving is one daughter, Donna J. Martin wife of Kevin Wetzel, Fleetwood, PA; one brother, Frederick W. Martin, (Vickie), Lancaster, PA; 2 grandchildren, Sarah Manmiller and Mark “Tony” Salles.  Don was a 1960 graduate of Reading High School and earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Penn State University in 1976.  Don was a jet aircraft mechanic in the US Air Force and also earned his private & commercial pilots license. He spent most of his career as an Air Traffic Controller beginning at Capital City Airport, later retiring in 1996 from Reading Regional Airport. He loved airplanes, motorcycles, cooking and even distributed his own BBQ sauce “Big Tex”. Don was a member the Antique Motorcycles Club, Kenhorst FC, Reamstown AA and the NRA. He had a heart of gold and his final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.  Services and internment will be private.  MARK J HUMMEL Funeral Home, Lower Alsace Twp., Reading has charge.  Condolences may be directed to the family at www.markjhummelfuneralhome.com
