Modesto Reyes, Jr. Obituary

Modesto "Mo" Reyes, Jr., 64, of Reading, PA, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, at Reading Hospital. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Modesto Reyes, Sr. and the late Juanita Marrero, and the stepson of the late Gloria Perez-Reyes.

Known lovingly by many as "Mo",  "J.R.", or "Junior", Modesto attended multiple schools throughout Reading and built a hardworking life rooted in dedication, family, and service to others. Throughout his career, he worked at Redner’s, Spring Air Mattress, and Exide Battery. He spent most of his life behind the wheel as a taxi driver in Reading, where he became a familiar and friendly face to many in the community. In the later years of his life, he continued serving others through medical transportation—a role he took great pride in.

Those who knew Modesto will forever remember him as the life of every party. He had a natural gift for making people laugh, no matter the circumstance. A true jokester at heart, he could turn any moment—good or bad—into one filled with humor. He loved to dance, sing, and uplift those around him, especially when they were feeling down. Whether he was cracking a joke, playing a prank, or breaking into a dance, Modesto brought joy everywhere he went. His presence was unforgettable, and his laughter will echo in the hearts of all who loved him. He loved sports and loved the Phillies and Eagles  and that he also played softball for most of his life on local teams like the "Piratas" and the "Los Criollos" and many others teams throughout his life.

He is survived by his daughter, Priscilla Reyes of Bethlehem, PA; his son, Alex Reyes of Allentown, PA; and his sisters Maria Reyes of Reading, PA; Cruzmaria Madrigal of Laureldale, PA; and Alicia Marrero of Florida. He also leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren: Dasani Blount, Nevaeh Ackles, Gianalese Fernandez, Izaiyah Fernandez, Amaree Williams-Reyes, Avion Reyes, and Ace Reyes, who brought immense joy and pride into his life.

Modesto was predeceased by his parents, stepmother, brothers Edgardo Reyes, Sr. and Gabriel Marrero, and his sisters Anabelle Marrero and Juanita Marrero.

A viewing will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 PM at Cramp Hummel Funeral Home, 934 Centre Ave., Reading.
